THE HD4830, ATI'S newest graphics card for the Indian market is aimed at filling the gap price-wise and per: formance-wise between the HD4670 and the HD4850. And it stays true to the 4800 series by giving good performance.
At first glance, the 4830 looks very similar to the 4850 down to the same length (over nine inches) and the fan over the core. Speaking about the core, the 4830 has a 575 MHz core which runs cooler than the 4850's. It also has 640 stream processors and a memory clock speed of 1800 MHz and boasts of 512MB of DDR3 RAM.
The first benchmark tests we ran were 3D Mark '06 and Vantage and the 4830 scored 11569 and 5847 respectively. These scores are not that far from the 4850's so this is very impressive. In the game benchmarks too, the 4830 cut an impressive figure. We tested the card using various games on a set of low to mid resolutions (1024x768,1280x1024and 1440x900) but with all settings maxed out and 4x anti-aliasing and the 4830 responded quite well. In older games like F.E.A.R. and Company of Heroes, the 4830 posted frame-rates in three figures at all resolutions. The two games that did put serious stress on the card were Crysis and World in Conflict with the card only managing frame-rates hovering around the 30 mark at the higher resolutions.
The HD4830 is priced at which we feel overshoots the ideal price-point by at least Seeing how you can get a 4850 for under you would be advised to just pay that extra and get that card. However, if you just cannot find that extra cash, then by itself the HD4830 is a good card that gives decent performance.
