This time around I tried my hands on the openSUSE ILl 64-bit version as soon as it was released last December. After a month or so. I'm still using it as the default as on my Pc. So. what caused the switch from Mandriva? Well, it's the openSUSE Build Service.
Build Service. as you know. is this pretty cool service. where newer software packages are made available for a particular openSUSE version-so, you no longer have to wait for the new as version to come out in order to check an updated version of an application. My decision was purely based on the fact that KDE 4.2 is around the corner (scheduled for release on January 27). so I didn't want to wait till April for Mandriva 2009 SpFing to try it.
In fact. I'm writing this article on KDE 4.2 RC (which was released on January 13) after 'fusing' it with the final openSUSE ILl DVD that was released in December. However. before we get into all that. let's see what the vanilla openSUSE has in its bag.
