Transcoding is the process of converting a video from one format to another. This is useful for uploading a video on the Internet, carrying it around on portable media players, including in presentations or e-mailing the video to someone.

You can use Kino to transcode videos. Just open the video file you want to transcode, then click on Export. Go to other to look at a number of compression and codec options available. Choose a suitable output format and click on export. Note that for trans coding to work properly, you will need to install the video codecs as explained above.
