The name Windows Live encompasses a variety of websites, online services, and offline applications. To make things more confusing, several other Microsoft services use the Live name and they aren't all interoperable with each other. However one common thread running through them is social interaction through the Web, and most of these programs encourage users to participate in the Live community and use other online and mobile Live services to share their media and lives.
Download a 133 MB installer (or find it on this month's CHIP DVD), which will allow you to select which Windows Live programs you want. Depending on what you already have installed and whether you're running Windows XP, Vista or 7, a number of options will be available to you. For example Windows Live Movie Maker isn't available to XP users, and the Outlook Connector will only be offered if you have Microsoft Office installed.
