How can I quickly insert a tick symbol into a Word document?
The normal way to do this is via the Insert Symbol window. It's not convenient if the symbol is needed on a regular basis but there is a way to assign a keyboard shortcut. Click on the Insert menu and then on Symbol. The tick can be found in the Wingdings font, click on the down arrow in the Font menu, scroll down to Wingdings and left-click on it. Left-click once on the tick symbol and then on the Shortcut key button. Left-click in the text box labelled 'Press new shortcut key' and press the keyboard shortcut you would like to use. If the keyboard combination is already in use the current assignment will be shown so you can decide if you want to keep it. Make sure the Save changes in option is set to ormal.dot otherwise the changes will not appear in new documents, only the current one. Click on Assign to save the change and then click on Close. Click on Cancel to close the Insert Symbol window.
