Default In a fix over a fax

I recently moved, at the same time cancelling my internet account and moving to broadband. For many years I've used my computer to send faxes through the internal modem but since the move I can't do that any more.

The computer is the same; I've tried using different filters and even plugged it into the main phone socket. I've tried different cables and modem, but I am stumped. All I get is a "No dial tone" message.

Presumably you were using a dial-up connection before moving to Sky broadband? If so, that's the cause of the problem. The fax service uses a different kind of modem (the modem you used for dial-up internet access) to the broadband connection, and the two are not compatible.

If you haven't changed the computer, you can still fax using the original modem, but you'll need to connect it to the phone socket as it was connected before you got broadband. That means having the broadband connection as it is now, but also plugging the original dial-up modem into the phone socket. Don't plug it into the same socket on the microfilter as your ADSL modem; it goes into the one meant for a telephone.
