If you have clients who need to be billed and paid as per the number of words written, you can do so by using the Word Count utility in MS Word. But if you have several files to bill, or have various text components such as textboxes, this activity can be both tedious and time consuming. There are also times when the word count may not be accurate. You can ensure that your work is accurate and quick by using a third party application called 'FineCount'. This application is available free and on a trial basis as well. Features like reports and PDF word counts are not available with the free version. Other features of the application are available in the paid version. To download and use the free application, carry out the steps as mentioned below:
Register yourself on the website.
Download and install the application.
Using the WYSISYG interface, load and view file information in the application. By default, text in elements like header, footer, text boxes, comments and auto-shapes are not considered in the final word count. Also, there are two different set of word counts. So make sure you consider using 'word count' under the MS Word section. To tweak the settings:
Click 'Settings' from the tool bar.
Go to the 'Formats' tab.
Select required formats and text sections which need to be included in your final invoice from your document to view the final count.
