In this step we will learn how add a 3D effect to your text. To apply this effect to your text, follow the steps as mentioned below.
Open new document. Choose dimensions and the resolution as required.
Press 'D' to reset the background and the foreground color as black and white.
Go to Filter / Render / Clouds.
Select the 'Text' tool and type 'FOG'. Position it towards the top.
Choose a text font as required.
Press Ctrl and click the text layer to load the selection. Go to 'Select / Feather' and set it to 4. Now hide your text layer.
Set your foreground color to white and background to light gray.
Create a new layer and then go to 'Filter I Render I Clouds'. Press Ctrl + D to deselect your text.
Right-click on a new layer and select 'Flatten Image' to merge all three layers.
Now go to Image / Image Rotation / 90CW. This will Rotate your canvas by 90cw.
Go to 'Filter / Stylize / Wind'.
Click 'Wind' from the 'Method' section and 'From the right' from the 'Direction' section. Press 'Ctrl + F' several times to reapply the same effect.
Go to Image / Image Rotation / 90CCW.
Go to 'Filter / Sharpen / Unsharp Mask'. Set values as follows; Amount: 500%, Radius: 2 and Threshold: O.
Go to Filter / Sharpen / Sharpen. Press 'Ctrl + F' twice to repeat the same effect twice.
Go to Image / Adjustment / Color Balance or press "Ctrl + BOO to open color balance box and play with the color slider to get some nice color of your choice.
NOTE: Your 3D text effect is how ready. In this case we used the color blue. With color balance, you can choose any color as required.
