For taking screenshots, the Print Screen key on the keyboard or the Sniping tool in Vista might suffice for most users. But if you want a better alternative with some cool extras, that does the job of capturing screens effectively, install PrtScr. It is a tiny little app that seems modeled on Vista's Snipping Tool but provides a better capturing experience.

You can start capturing by pressing the Print Screen key (can be changed to another hot key combination from the Settings menu) or by right clicking on the system tray icon. A visually appealing display comes up as a quick guide on the different capturing options when you initiate the capturing process. A single click will capture the entire screen display and give you the option of saving it to different locations like the desktop, a particular drive or folder, etc.

It can also be send to a printer, clipboard or as an email attachment. If you are capturing a particular window, the file name is prefilled with the windows title and you can add text to be embedded in the screenshot.

There is also an annotation tool for drawing on the captured area. A portion of the display area can be captured by using the rectangle selection tool or the freeform tool If you want to enhance the captured images, you can edit it by clicking on the 'Edit' button, it will open within Windows' own Paint tool where you can proceed for applying changes to the images. Images can be saved in three formats aPG, PNG, and BMP) and you can set the quality, transparency level, or rescale the captured image. It also comes with support for multiple monitors; and has the capacity to capture translucent windows easily and effectively.
