Thread: Googlemail password problems

I decided to access my Googlemail account using the Thunderbird email software. As the password was saved by my browser I entered the wrong password several times. Eventually, I double checked it by logging in to the web pages but even that password will not work with Thunderbird any more. What is wrong?

The good news is that this is because of a security checK by Google. If too many attempts are made to access an account, it is locked in case it is an malicious attempt to gain access. This can also happen if the email software attempts to check for emails more frequently than every 10 minutes.

To regain access to the email with Thunderbird, start an internet browser on the same computer, type google site into the address bar and press enter. Enter the username and password for the account in the top two boxes (the username may already be filled in) and then type the letters in the picture into the bottom box.

The picture is distorted so that people, but not computers, can read it. Click on Unlock. When the web page shows that you have unlocked the account try again with Thunderbird.
