Add a media card reader

Many notebooks include a built-in card reader, but it may not support all the memory cards you need. Belkin's Media Reader-Writer Express Card Adapter and adds xO, SO, Memory Stick and MMC slots.

Record TV programmes

Rather than using an unwieldy USB TV tuner, turn to an Express Card version such as the Hauppauge WinTV HVR 1400 to enjoy television on the move without the bulk of a USB device. You will still need an aerial, though.

Add USB and Firewire ports

Many smaller notebooks have a limited number of sockets for USB devices. If you've run out already, Belkin's USB 2.0 and Firewire Express Card adds an extra two USB sockets as well as a Firewire socket that's ideal for camcorders or external hard disks.

Get mobile broadband

You'll need a mobile broadband contract too, but with costs getting cheaper and cheaper there's never been a better time to access the internet on the move.

Connect a fast hard disk

Most external hard disks connect to a computer by means of Firewire or USB, but a few can use an even faster eSata cable. If your notebook doesn't have an eSata port, you can add two using Belkin's Sata II Express Card.
