Fire up Windows Media Player on the host PC and add media that you want to stream over Wi-Fi. You can specify folders containing music, videos and music on your PC as well as another PC on the network.

You have to allow devices on the Wi-Fi network to find your shared media. Go to 'Library I Media sharing'. Check the option 'Share my media to' and grant access to PlayStation 3 which shows up as Unknown Device for some strange reason.

Playstation 3 automatically searches for shared media on the network and displays the content under the relevant categories. If you have connected an external storage device to the USB port and hooked up a NAs device to your network, Playstation 3 will detect them as well. Navigate to any media category using the Cross{X) bar and you'll see the name of the PC or storage device if it has media shared on it. Pictures get displayed as thumbnails along with the file type and the date on which they were shot or downloaded.

The supported image formats include JPEG, GIF and TIFF. To make browsing music and videos easy Playstation 3 automatically organizes your music according to tile album name, artist name, genre and rating. The videos are organized according to video genres, actors, series and rating. Playstation 3 natively supports a host of audio and video formats. The audio support is limited to MP3, MP4 AAC, Wave and WMA. But video support encompasses MPEG-1" MPEG-2\ MPEG-4 and H.264. Hence you can play DivX, XviD and WMV files without any hassles. We tried streaming MKV files through Windows Media Player but we didn't succeed. You may want to search for your favorite scenes in a movie.

The scene search function in the video control panel allows you to select and play scenes at fixed intervals. You can select from 15 see, 30 see, 1 min, 2 min and 5 min intervals. These scenes are then displayed as thumbnails at the bottom of the screen. When you select a thumbnail, cf short preview of the video is played within the thumbnail itself. In addition to media playback the Playstation 3 is also equipped with a built in web browser. You can either use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse or the on-screen keyboard with the help of the controller.
