Toshiba has several series of notebooks, and each series caters to different categories of consumers. The Satellite series is meant for SOHO users, or for those who just want to have a notebook instead of a PC.
The Satellite series has been able to combine budget notebooks with all the basic functionalities, and this is where the L300 stands out in comparison to others. With a lustrous onyx blue finish the notebook looks cool, but sadly attracts finger smudges. Although the inside material is made up of it did not feel heavy. With 1200x800 resolution, L300's picture quality is adequate for working or watching movies, and we don't expect anything more from a low-cost notebook.
The L300's keyboard is comfortable to use, the keys are well spaced. The power button and integrated speakers are placed above the keyboard. The output of the onboard speakers was good in mids, but it lacked bass in the highs. The touchpad has a matte finish, and the webcam has face detection technology. The system has three USB ports, one modem port, one Ethernet port, one PCI Express port, one multi card . reader, one Kensington lock slot, on,e VGA port along with a DVD-Ram drive.
Surprisingly, L300 is bundled with DOS operating system. The L300 comes with an Intel Pentium Dual Core processor. The memory on board is 2GB with a 320GB hard drive. Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MH with 128MB shared memory is included.
The notebook provided around 3 hours of battery life in a fully-charged condition. Strangely, it does not have Bluetooth.
On a whole L300 perfectly fits the SOHO segment. So, if you're looking for a very basic, low-cost and yet efficient notebook for home use then this is a good option.
