Intex, a computer peripherals maker, could not resist the temptation of jumping into the netbook rat-race. It has entered this segment with the N101-WC110.
However, the netbook failed to impress us with its looks. The netbook is slightly boxy and shaped like a book, made of plastic. It is avai lable in two colours - red and black. The red one has an arty design on the lid, mimicking a red hard-bound novel.
The keyboard is quite large utilizing the full width of the base, and we felt comfortable while typing. The touchpad area is quite small. Intex has played around with the touchpad keys, placing them on the sides rather than the bottom. It takes time to get used to this redesigned layout.
The configuration is standard, with an Intel n270 (1.6 GHz), epu paired with 1GB memory and 160GB hard disk. You can upgrade the memory to 2GB to enhance performance.
The power on/offbutton is on the right-hand side, two USB, one VGA, one Ethernet and a Kensington slot are on the left. The 7 -in-1 card reader and audio ports are placed on the front. The netbook warms up considerably /after few hours because of smaller vents.
The performance of N101-WC110 suffers in the multitasking mode, and the addition of Megabit Ethernet port and 802.11 big wireless capabilities also strain the processor when used.
It weighs just 1.2 kg, and a battery backup is low, around three hours. Sadly, no operating system is bundled with this netbook. Though its scores well on the value for money parameter.
