Finally BenQ has joined the Netbook race. The new Joybook U101 comes with a usual 10.1 in LED screen with a 16 x 9 aspect ratio. Though nothing included is startlingly out-of-the-box, BenQ claims it's a product of their 101 % dedication.
The BenQ Joybook Lite 101 has a funky look with stunning shiny colour and scattered winding fonts. It has an Intel Atom N270 processor with 1 GB memory and 160GB of hard drive space. The operating system bundled is Windows XP Home. Additionally we found two hidden slots, which can be useful when upgrading this Netbook. One is at the back for adding a SSD for further space. Though it doesn't have built-in 3G support, it has a SIM slot inside the battery compartment. But, to insert the SIM you'll have to detach the battery from the Netbook itself.
The build quality of the Joybook Lite U101 didn't impress us. The usual lacquered glossy lid made it smudge prone. The manufacturer claimed that the U 101 is sturdier in comparison to other netbooks but we found it the cheapest in terms of build quality. The keyboard could have used both side spaces to make more room. We were not very comfortable using it, and found it a bit cramped. The trackpad is fine and easy-to-use but the mouse bar is somewhat noisy.
