Using a digital camera is as simple with Ubuntu as Windows. Once the camera is connected, Ubuntu will detect it and ask if you want to import photos into an album. Make sure the Always perform this action option has a tick in it to save time when copying pictures from this camera in the future. Click on the Import Photos button. A thumbnail viewer will appear so you can browse the pictures on the camera. Once you've found the photos to import, left-click on the File menu and then on Import Photos.

Leave the destination folder as your home folder. Film is the name of the folder for the photos. Left -click on the button with three full stops to select categories. Click on the boxes to add a category to all the photos. If there is not a suitable category, click on New to add another. When all the categories have been added. click on the OK button and then on the Import button.

The photos will then be downloaded to the computer and the thumbnail viewer will change to view the new photos on the computer. When browsing the folders in your home folder, the photo folders have an icon of a photo film. Photos from different folders can be grouped together in Catalogues. Click on the Catalogues icon in the tool bar, left-click on the File menu and select New Catalogue. Give the catalogue a name and click on OK. Select the photos to be added to the catalogue, right -click on them and select Add to Catalogue. Click on the catalogue you want to add them to and click on OK.

When you want to remove the camera you should disconnect it properly just like Windows. Find the icon for the camera that appeared on the Desktop when the camera was detected. It will have a small USB icon and probably be called disk. Right-click on it and select Eject from the menu that appears.

The image viewer can be started in the future by clicking on the Applications menu, Graphics and then Thumb Image Viewer. It can also be used to make basic editing corrections. Double-click on an image to open it. The editing options are in the image menu.
