Ubuntu checks for updates automatically and an orange icon with a white star appears in the left side of the top Taskbar if any are available. Left-click on this to install the updates. Click on the button Install Updates and enter your password when prompted. Click on the Close button twice when they have been installed.
Linux is even easier to use when it comes ready installed, and without the cost of Windows, a computer with Linux installed can be cheaper.

As Ubuntu costs nothing to download and use from a CD, it is possible to try it out first but the advantage of buying a computer with it preinstalled is the reassurance that all the drivers are provided and will work. If you want a cheap second computer to surf the web and write reports, this is an excellent way to do so.
