I have a collection of video files on my computer in various formats (AVI, RM, MPEG etc) which I would like to convert to the same format (preferably MPEG), for ease of storage and playback. Is there a utility that will do this for me?

This isn't as easy as it sounds. Your AVI files may already be in MPEG format the AVI is just a container that can include any kind of video and audio inside it. Obviously the MPEG files don't need conversion. Likewise, if you have any DivX or Xvid files, these are also MPEGs in a highly compressed format, so there's no point converting them. Which leaves the RM files, which are. generated and played by Realplayer and similar applications. It's not 100 per cent reliable, but we've found it works better than most at this job and it will also convert mpst of the other video formats you describe. Bear in mind that, depending on the size and complexity of your videos, the conversion process can be long and laborious and results may not be very impressive.
Also Super, while powerful, is not the friendliest of programs to use. One alternative is to use a software player such as Media Player Classic, which will play the above formats and more.
