The Acer Aspire 5738 DG boasts quite a capable feature set with discrete graphics like most sub-Rs 45,000 laptops today. Under its hood lie a 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB hard drive and Radeon HD 4570 discrete graphics-a pretty decent configuration for gaming on its 15.6-inch widescreen display that has a resolution of 1366x768 pixels. It can handle most of the latest games with medium settings and a bit of AA thrown in. Also playing high definition videos via the HDMI port is a breeze since the GPU supports hardware-accelerated decoding. What makes this laptop special is its ability to deliver an immersive 3D experience.

The de-interlaced 3D technology is powered by TriDef 3D for which the laptop is equipped with a special screen and comes bundled with polarized 3D glasses. A clip-on attachment is also bundled for those who wear regular glasses. The bundled application (TriDef 3D Experience) has a few pre loaded photos and videos that give you an idea about the 3D experience-if you haven't experienced a 3D movie yet, you'll be blown away! TriDef 3D Experience can also transform standard DVD movies and photos in 3D, but it isn't as eye-popping as the preloaded 3D content.

The most interesting feature is TriDef 3D Ignition which allows running popular game titles in 3D mode. These include Left 4 Dead, Crysis, Race Driver: Grid, Batman: Arkham Asylum and so on. The 3D effect in games is very good-we tried Left 4 Dead and the shrubs and oncoming zombies in an outdoor scene seemed as if they were popping out of the screen. Considering the prices of other laptops with similar configurations, the Aspire 4738 DG is good value for money. It's powerful, robust and the first of its kind that makes gaming and multimedia experiences more exciting.
