A week ago I had un installed Nero 7 from my system, When H I restarted the system my DVD drive had disappeared from My Computer. I'm running Windows XP with SP3. How do I get my drive back? It's driving me crazy. When I boot my computer, the drive is visible in the boot-up sequence, Manjunath, via ematl
Since your DVD drive is being detected when you start the computer, this is a problem with the Windows Registry, The problem was caused by Nero leaving bits of cruft inside the registry.

This happens all too often for our liking, sadly. To fix this problem, you're going to have to edit the Registry and delete a certain value,Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe), locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:

Name: Make an HTML Newslatter.jpg
Views: 232
Size: 19.4 KB

HKEY _LOCAL_MACH I N E\SYSTE M\CurrentControlSet\Control \ Class\[ 4D36E965-E325-11CE -BFCI-OB002BE1031B)
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK, Then, locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry and delete the value, Quit Registry Editor and restart.

t;1 I bought an HP 6767tx laptop recently. The operating sys¬H tem is Windows Vista Home Premium. When I insert any DVD that has video files, Windows Explorer crashes. If it is a movie DVD, it plays, but it can't be explored, A message comes that Windows Explorer stopped working and it is restarting, There is no problem with the drive, I can burn DVDs easily. Even after I copied some movies on my USB thumb drive from my desktop, I got the same error message. How do I get Windows to recognize the video files?

Palak, via email
It looks like Vista is having a problem decoding the media files.
Thisis a known issue that crops up from time to time, To fix it, try this, on the System page in Control Panel, click Advanced system settings, and then in the Performance box, click Settings, Turn off the Show Thumbnails instead of icons option, and click OK. Now Windows Explorer won't crash, but you won't be able to see thumbnail images of your videos, A fix should be out soon for this from Microsoft.
