Desktop icons missing
Now, I have Windows XP and Linux installed on the one hard disk. On the windows the desktop icons left. I used to run "explorer.exe" from the Windows Task Manager. It worked for a as and then the icons left again. I try to repair point and again it worked for a while and then the icons left.
At last, I repaired the Win xp from the original CD but I could not get solution.

As much as the failing desktop shortcuts did you make sure of the Desktop clean option by chance? Every month that will take any unused shortcuts from the desktop and pack them into a new folder so you only see one item in its place of the one or more unused items s on your desktop. That would have a folder type icon and be detectable.

For considering this problem corrected you wouldn't necessarily have to reinstall all over again if it still continues on actually XP has another option beside a full reinstall called the repair install technique where all of your programs, files, and folders will remain whole as the Windows installer repairs, changes any missing OS files

One time XP goes during seeing all the main system files change the Windows installer will also rewrite the mbr entry for XP creation Linux unseen at startup. You will need to revise the technique you were using for the current dual boot to see Linux as an option again.

i use norton ghost to save window installed image of drive. it can be retrieve in 10 minutes only.
