First of all, make sure you have not mistakenly signed into MSN on another computer. This could happen, if you select the option to remember your username and password for MSN. When you connect to the Internet, MSN automatically signs in using the username and password that is saved.

If you've made sure that you have not signed into another computer, you might be using Windows XP. Windows XP comes with Microsoft Windows Messenger installed by default. This remains on the computer even after you've installed MSN Messenger.
