THE ASUS DRW-1814BLT is both fast, and reliable. Only slightly slower than the second placed Lite-On LH20¬A1S, the Asus gives the added feature of LightScribe with which you can label compatible media using the optical drive. Also, in our tests the Asus generated the least amount of Parity Inner errors and therefore provid¬ed the most consistent per¬formance in terms of quality of writing.
The Asus DRW¬1814BLT comes with SATA connectivity, which has become standard on new motherboards. Asus bundles Nero 6 OEM version with the DRW-1814BLT. The price point of this drive is around the same mark as that of the competitors, and given its quality burns, more than its burning speed, we have no qualms recommending it for your data backup.
Runners up: In our tests, there was next to nothing separating the Lite-On LH 20Al S from the Asus. While Asus gave a more quality per¬formance, the Lite-On was faster. Definitely a fine second choice for a purchase. Although the Sony DRU-835A also offers LightScribe, its moderate burning speeds and average performance kept it from giving a tough fight to either the Asus or the Lite-On
