OUR AUGUST 2008 issue featured a comparison of entry-level wireless desk¬top-mouse combos priced between Rs.l ,000 to Rs. 2,000 and the Wireless Optical Desktop 1000 emerged as the winner. The Desktop 2000 that we got our hands on this time is a wee bit more expensive at about Rs. 2,400 but is more refined - the keys are softer and more silent. The mouse is a dual tone light gray black combination that looks elegant while the keyboard employs a dark gray black color scheme. The keyboard used in this bundle is a 'Comfort Curve' model that the company claims is easier on the hands than standard keyboards. In our usage, we found that it takes some getting used to before you begin to appreciate the new layout.

The keyboard has the usual multimedia keys and shortcuts to launch the browser and email client. Other additions include the forward / back keys along with a prominent key above the number pad for launching the Calculator. The keyboard layout is in agreement with the 104 Standard PC keyboard with the Home, End, Page Up / Down, Del keys being placed in their standard locations. Many keyboard
models opt for a different layout, much to the annoyance of users accustomed to the earlier standard. The mouse on its part is also easy on the hands, clicking does not take much effort and the curved design lets people take a more natural holding position. The overall design of the mouse enables it to be used even by people with large hands without much difficulty.
