The tag processor is the most useful feature in tag scanner. The note-pad like icon in the worskspace to the right is the disc lD calculator. This feature goes horrible wrong if all the files from an album are not selected. Select all the files in one album, not more, not less, then select a database (the options available are FreeDB, trackŽtype.org, Amazon and Discsongs) then click on search. You need an Internet connection for this feature to work. Now select 'Preview' - go through the files to see if the tag information is corŽrect. Ifthe filenames are correct, then there is no reason why this should be wrong. Sometimes, it may be another version of the album from the same artist, or a different set of songs in a collection or series of collections. If this is the case, select a different album in the previous window, and then click preview again. When you get to the correct set of tags for your audio file (which is usually in the first instance itself), click on Save to add the tag data to all the files.
This feature works like magic for files with correst names" but without tag information: c' The magnifYing glass icon searches for. song information for single files. Selt;ct a file, click on search and select a match from the list of search results displayed, and click on save. This feaŽture is substantially less accurate than the album search feature, and won't work at all for the more obscure or rare songs. The third option available is a manual search, and this is the last resort to use in case all other methods of organisation fail. On the top bar, are three icons for the type of task you want to perform with the tag processor. By default, the task is se to 'Generate file information from online source'.
If you have the important file information, like the album and the artist in the file name itself" choose 'Generate TAG from file name'. If your file name is [ artist] -( track] .mp3 saved in [ CD 1] and [CD2] subfolders of the ( album] folder, enter 2 in the title field, 1 in the artist field and in the album field. Enter the genre and the year manually. Tagscanner uses delimiters to generate tag inforŽmation from the filename; this is any kind of character between the artist name and the song name like a dash or a space. %1 to %9 is the part of the fileŽname, %D# is the folder name, and %U# is the folder name a level above the folder in which the song is stored. Oick on Preview, have a look, then click on Generate.
