The Kingston DataTraveler BlackBox with titanium casing is a waterproofed and rugged drive that looks pretty impressive at the outset. It has the look and feel of a military device and is not targeted for ordinary consumers since it is listed in their family of products especially designed for government or state authorities. This drive doesn't provide the myriad of options that the Transcend JetFlash 220 provides but as a drive dedicated only for the purpose of secure data protection, it is hard to beat. This is the only drive that came with Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 Level 2 certification (US) which is a standard set by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NlST). Every time the drive is plugged in, it will run a power-on self test to verify that the encryption architecture is functioning and it also checks for a tamper-proof seal.
The drive features 256-bit AES encryption for all stored data and is protected through a powerful pasSword authentication system which enforces the user to create strong and complex password combination. The degree of security it provides can be gauged from the fact that the drive will be automatically formatted and all the data will be destroyed after 10 consecutive failed password attempts. For a drive which concentrates on protecting data, this is the one to go for. And on the speed and performance front, it was second to the Sandisk Crlizer which was the fastest.
