When you lock a door for security, only its key can open it again. Why should a computer have to make do with a lower level of security, such as passwords? It is possible to strengthen security by using your USB pendrive as the key. Once implemented, that makes sure no one can logon without permission from you. If anyone wants to logon to a user account protected by a pendrive, they need to provide authentication, in the form of inserting the pendrive. This also makes it convenient, for you don't need to type out a complex password every time you want to access your computer - just plug the pendrive into a USB port at the front, and you are in.
