    Default USB port not functioning

I am using Vista on my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop. I have one port that is not functioning it does not allow me to get online and so checked my other USB ports the other ports works very fine. But when i insert the cable to this port it does not function I goggled and found an article that told me to go into the device manager and uninstall every single USB controller instance in the device manager. I did the same and rebooted, and all other ports are still working, but I found the same port was still not functioning. And i also got an error message saying something like "This USB device isn't working as fast as it can, it can be USB 2.0" or something like that. ALl these USB ports are 2.0--the computer and my computer is 2 years old only.

Hi, is your usb port connected to your case? if so that's connected to a USB header on the motherboard first check the wiring to make sure are they properly connected or no they should be almost four colored wire red, white, brown and green and so please check your motherboard manual and it will show you how to connect up the headers USB it shows two USB ports to one header. if they are wired up correctly then one of your ports is been damaged nothing can be done with your USB controller as the other ports work fine or else reinstalling the USB drivers again or check whether the port pins are being damaged internally or else try reinstall all your USB as well as chipset drivers may it workout

Its a laptop - it's a classic case for a damaged port – I have a USB drive and knocked while inserting and bended the pins inside, does it function when you force it up or down? Does the port look different or damaged compared to others?

I would like to recommend you to take a look by using flashlight and check whether the port is exactly the same usb port next to it. Try interchanging the cable up and down but yet it does not function check whether there is a beep sound while inserting a USB that every desktop or laptop makes it during inserting an USB if it then the system is normal does it makes the beep sound when you plug- in a USB cable; and still you find the port not functioning. So please reinstall your USB or chipset driver and check whether it works and if it does not. The port is being damaged internally or try changing your cables connected even they may be defected ones.
