There are many motives to make bootable CD. General is to have disaster procedure for starting PC if system failure. With increased popularity of netbook PCs, require for bootable USB flash drives is raising. A netbook does not have standard DVD or CD drive installed but OS are vulnerable. Making bootable USB drive from CD is probable with use of conversion software. Downloading software permits to move files from CD into flash drive. Software then adjusts flash drive to bootable state.

Instructions

Step 1

Download WinToFlash software. Start it on PC.

Step 2

Insert bootable CD in drive.

Step 3

Put in blank flash drive in USB port. For Vista, drive must be at least 4 GB of storage space. XP works with just 2 GB.

Step 4

Go to "Tasks" strip in WinToFlash program.

Step 5

Select proper OS. If you are using company's CD, like Windows XP or Vista installation disks, choose "Transfer Windows setup to flash."

Step 6


Make virtual drive on PC. If you are using CD with an image file, you should load image on virtual drive. For this use Daemon Tools or Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel. This makes virtual drive on PC and loads image. PC sees image as normal application.

Step 7

Allow program to run. After it finishes, take out USB drive and store it in secure place. It is now bootable flash drive.
