Sony, the maker of successful gaming device line-up PlayStation, has filed rights for gaming devices with a touchscreen LCD screen that can be used with more than one type of gaming device. Whether the different kinds of devices contain Microsoft's Xbox 360 or Nintendo's Wii is not being specified, but it technically could and the technical drawing integrated in the rights does stand the Nintendo and Xbox names, according to electronista.
The display can copy the button design and pattern of almost every device aviable on the market, as long as it's preprogrammed into the console. The virtual design also has plural keys that can be chosen by the user to input commands to a game device.
A lot of gamers use more than one game device and might find this design very helpful. It will be not easy to guess whether virtual buttons will be better than physical buttons. But it may just make the gaming experience much more suitable. Sony has so far not claimed that it will be making any controller of this sort, though it is rather obvious that the procedure of developing it should have already started.
