In the previous chapter, you have learnt how to open the Notepad program. Let us now open another program called WordPad in Windows XP and work in it. Let us open the WordPad program by undertaking the following steps:

1.Move the mouse and place the mouse-pointer over the Start button ( ) on the Taskbar. Clickthe left -mouse button on it. Immediately, a push-up menu appears on the screen

2.Inside the push-up menu, placethe mouse pointer on the All £rograms option. A second menu appears immediately

3. Inside the second menu, move the mouse-pointer over the Accessories option. A third menu appears next to the second menu

4. In the third menu, place the mouse-pointer over the WordPad option and click the left mouse¬button. The WordPad window opens up on your screen

Let us refresh our familiarity with some common window components that would appear when the Word Pad window opens up.

Title bar:

The top-most bar present in any window.

Menu bar:

The bar just below the Title bar with some menus.

Menus:

A set of major menus such as File, Edit, View, Insert, Format and Help. Each menu has its own commands which you can use to save a file, print a file, open a file, ete.

Pull.down menu:

When you click on any menu in the Menu bar, it generates a list of commands. This list is called pull-down menu.

Standard TooIbar :

It lies below the Menu bar and contains buttons for performing operations like printing, saving a file, copy, cut, paste, etc.
