WHAT WOULD FIRE FOX be without its slew of add¬ons and plugins? We don't want to imagine, and so recommend some that will enhance your Firefox experience on the Web.
AdblockPlus: This add-on is a must-have when it comes to browsing the Web with Firefox. AdblockPlus prevents pesky ad-banner elements from loading on a webpage, thereby allowing faster surfing. After installing Adblock Plus, click on Options and make sure to subscribe to a filter list. These lists maintain a database of notorious ad services. In case Adblock blocks out content you would like to see, just right click...on the Adblock iCOll (bot;om right of the screen) and stop blocking.
NoScript: This is another powerful add-on which will make your Web browsing sessions a lot more secure. How? Well, with the help of this you can disallow all kinds of Javascript and Flash content from opening on any webpage you visit, thereby minimizing your risk of click¬ing a rogue banner and infecting your Pc. However, you can create a whitelist of sites you think are trust worthy and NoScript will deem the page safe and show its entire original content.
Flashgot: In terms of download management, there are many add-ons worth checking out. I personally prefer Flashgot (which needs a version of Flashget - a free download manager - installed on your computer) for managing my downloads. It works beautifully with no problems whatsoever. Just click on a download link with AIt key held down to start downloading files through Flashget.
Foxmarks: If you Firefox at more than one computer, you can't do without synchronizing your bookmarks. Foxmarks excels in this department, and provides an easy addon by which you can carry your bookmarks wherever you have Internet access. Create a Foxmarks account and install the add-on, and whenever you book-mark a website, make sure you sync it with your Foxmarks folder online. Follow the same procedure on another computer to duplicate your bookmarks.
After registering and installing the plugin, you will be greeted with a Foxmarks pop-up which will gUide you through configuring your account. Once that is done, notice the Foxmarks icon in the bottom right of the screen. Click on it and enter your Foxmarks account credentials to log in. Now everytime you make a change to your bookmarks folder, it will be automatically synced with your Foxmarks account. You will always have access to your bookmarks whenever you are online.
Fire.fm: Last.fm is a popular destination for listening to online radio. And a Firefox add-on, called Fire.fm, will let you log into your favorite station without visiting the website every time you want to listen a song. After installing the add-on, you get a Last.fm toolbar below the URL address bar. You can select a radio station by entering your favorite artist's name and then tune in.
Cooliris: The Cooliris (formerly known as PicLens) add-on makes searching images through Google, Flickr, and other popular image sites, a fun experience. Every image search transports you to a web album-like interface. Pictures are displayed in the form of a 3D image wall, and to see more images you simply scroll the tab at the bottom of the screen. You can even share and upload your images by creating a Cooliris account.
LastPass: Say goodbye to struggling to remember user-names and passwords of all the websites you visit. Instead, LastPass password manager will do that for you. Install the add-on and create a LastPass account: and remember the master password. That's it. Now every time you have to sign-up on a forum, LastPass will do it for you with a strong password. You can fill forms at the click of a button, store all your unique website logins securely on LastPass' servers, and even share logins with friends.
