Pipelining is an interesting technology used to speed up the browsing capabilities of Firefox 3. Instead of loading components in a webpage one at a time, pipelining allows multiple objects to load on the browser simultaneously. However, it is mandatory that one should have a faster connection.
For instance, this can be more productive in case of broadband connection but it is practically useless if enabled in case of a dial-up connection. By default, Firefox is configured to work on an average (dial-up) speed. The steps are simple and the effectiveness is reflected in the faster browsing once these steps are carried out.
o Launch Firefox 3 and enter "about:config" in the address barThis will display a list
of configurable options on the screen.
o Enter "network. http" in the filter text box.
o Look for the entry labeled as "net'!Vork.http.pipering" and double click the "Value" column. The entire entry row will get a "Bold" formatting and the value will change to "True" from the default "False".'
o Follow the similar procedure for the entry labeled as "network,http.proxy. pipelining". Set the value to "True".
o Set the value of "network. http. pipelining.maxrequests" to "30". This value controls the number of request that Firefox can make at a time. The default value is usually lower.
o To add more speed to the browser right-click on the window and select "New I Integer" from the context menu. Name this new value as "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set the value of this entry to "0". This value is the amount of time that Firefox waits before it starts working on the received information.
Each of these steps contributes to increasing the speed of browsing with the help of pipelining.
