There are many programs that run in the background ofWindows'XP and slow down the computer. One of these is Windows Messenger, which is switched on by default. If you do not use Messenger you can prevent it from running. To do this, first open Messenger: the program file is called msmsgs.exe and it's in the Messenger folder within the Programs Files folder on the main hard disk. Now open the Tools menu, select Options and click on the Preferences tab. Next untick the checkboxes labelled 'Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts' and 'Allow Windows Messenger to run in the background' and click on OK. Close Messenger and restart your PC. Messenger will no longer run automatically.
