Programs that are essentially 'shared' with you so that you can get to know how they work before you decide to buy it. Shareware programs may have a set of 'locked' features that you can only gain access to after you buy the license for the product. The primary difference between shareware and freeware is that shareware are usually time limited. For example one of the most popular compression utilities WinZip is actually a shareware product which can only be legally used for 15 days from the date of downloading.
