Once you are familiar with the steps in the simulation, you can do the real thing. Create a key combination for your real name and your e-mail address.
You can accomplish that either in GPA or in WinPT [Windows PrivacyTrayl as described in the next few steps.
1. Click "Start I All Programs I GnuPG
for Windows I WinPT".
You won't see any sign of WinPT yet. But look for the WinPT icon in the system tray at the bottom of the screen.
2. Double-click on the WinPT icon
and the WinPT interface [key manager) will appear.
If you created keys earlier or acquired them from others, they will be listed here.
3.Select "Key I New I Normal".
4.Enter your name in the appropriate box when prompted. Likewise, enter your e-maiIID.
5. Select the option" Prefer RSA key" only if you need to create keys that are compatible with very old PGP versions and click "OK".
6. Then enter the password for protecting your private key. Follow the guidelines for the passphrase that we discussed in Step 2 (simulationl. If you are alone or are sure no one can see your screen, we recommend that you uncheck the "Hide Typing" option so that you can see what you are typing. Click "OK" and enter the same passphrase again to confirm it.
Wait a few moments while the keys being are generated.
7. You are then encouraged to make a backup of the keys. Respond with "Yes" when prompted to do so.
You can store the public key/ pubring in the Backup folder. But we strongly recommend that you store it on a USB thumb drive. Navigate to the appropriate folder or to the USB drive from the "Save in" box.
Finally click on the "Save" button. Likewise, back up the secret key (private keyl.
If any warning appears that says the keys already exist and asks if you want to overwrite these, then respond with "Yes".
8. The keys are now created and you will see these in the Key manager.
