You've probably heard of e-mail¬spamming but what exactly is e-mail spoofing? While most people confuse the two in reality there is much difference between the two. E-mail spamming is often done deliberately to use network resources, It may be combined with e-mail spoofing so that it is very difficult to determine the actual originating e-mail address of the sender.

Spoofing does not always mean that your computer is infected by a worm or a virus, which is probably sending out messages from your address book, It could be that your friend's machine that has your e-mail address stored in the address book has been infected or hijacked and is sending out messages with your e-mail as well as other addresses that are randomly taken from the infected machine's address book.
