Surfing the internet is little different from Windows because the Firefox web browser is available for Windows, Mac and Linux. Start browsing by clicking on the Applications menu, then Internet and then Firefox web browser. One small difference is that the Options window is in the Edit menu, not the Tools menu as it is in Windows. This is common with Linux programs.
Evolution not only handles emails, but a calendar and contacts as well. Click on the Applications menu, then Internet and Evolution Mail. The different sections are accessed by clicking on the icons down the left-hand side. The Setup Assistant will appear when you start Evolution for the first time. Click on Forward. Type your name in the first box and then enter your email address. Click on Forward to continue. Select the kind of server from the drop-down menu. For the maj ority of email accounts this will be POP. Enter the server name in the Server box and your email address as the username. Click on the Remember password option and then on Forward. Decide whether or not you want to check for mail automatically - this is only recommended for broadband users. If you want to access the email account from another computer you should select the option Leave messages on server. Click on Forward.
The next step is to enter the details for the outgoing server as provided by your ISP. In most cases the option 'Server requires authentication' should be enabled. Use your email address as the username. Click on Forward for the next step, which is to give the account a meaningful name. This is helpful if you have more than one email account and need to distinguish between them. Click on Forward and choose a time zone by clicking on London. Make sure the selection says Europe/London and then click on Forward then Apply to finish the wizard. That's it and Evolution is ready to use.
