How to filter incoming messages in Gmail automatically

My most of the work is on Gmail .I got many mails in day. Some are useless of them but while sorting out it takes much time. During the searching for a few tip a propos the same, I got this automatically filter messages sent in Thunderbird. So, I wanted to know is there any to automatically filter all incoming emails in Gmail?

A filter is an action that starts automatically before the message shows in your message list. Gmail lets you apply filters to messages you get to do a particular action, according to different criteria. Fortunately, Google also permits you to filter your messages on the following criteria:-

• The sender,

• The recipient,

• The subject

• A word in the message,

• A word not present in the message,

• With enclosure.
