    Default Reduce URL extent

Hi, I have a facebook account and have seen that if we drop any URL over there, it gets shorten automatically. For me, that is really notable as doing so we can get some more extra space for text. I think this can be helpful in case of forum or a mail or a web address extension. So, i just wanted to know how we can ease the length of any URL.
