Upgrading to Vista has its benefits, but some older programs may not work properly under the new operating system. Often the first you'll hear about this is an error message saying '[program name] has stopped working'.
Thankfully, Microsoft has provided a couple of ways to get around these problems. First, try Vista's built¬in compatibility tools - click Start, then Control Panel, then Programs, then Use an older program with this version of Windows. If this doesn't work, and you have a spare Windows XP disc, it's also possible to run a 'virtual' Windows XP computer inside the Vista one using Microsoft's tools. This is complicated, though, so we'd only recommend it if the program
is really needed.
