For some firms (e.g., financial institutions, some government agencies), who now depend on costly private leased lines, significant cost savings can be gained by replacing leased lines with an eqUivalent Internet VPN connection. In this scenario, which is already broadly deployed in many enterprises, all traffic would still be backhauled to remote users, but over a far less expensive WAN connection. This model provides a conservative "phase one" approach to integrating the Internet into core business processes.
