Thread: Not capable for getting the shared folder on home network

I've got an XP machine networked to a Windows 7 machine. I've also it with the standard shared folder in XP which is being shared over by the network. I've also made a setting for the XP My Docs folder to be shared.

When I'm on the Windows 7 box, I’m able to view the XP computer, yet the only folder which I can easily access is called "Public". Which contains "Public Pics", "Public Vids" etc.. and a few "Recorded TV" type files. I’m not having any idea where this "Public" folder is on my XP machine. I am unable to find it.

I also not aware why the folders which I've specified it as shared are not showing up.

I was incorrect. I cannot see the XP machine from the Windows 7 computer. The folder I'm seeing (on the local network) when I'm on the Windows 7 box is actually on the same box. I'm new to this. I am expecting to see my shared XP folders when I'm looking at the network through my Windows 7 machine, yet I cannot.

Turn off the firewall which is kept for debugging. If there is a problem in the firewall, you'll then have to configure it to allow the access to "trusted zone" addresses. Note that there are some firewalls which must be entirely uninstalled to stop them from affecting your networking.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt. In the command prompt window which opens, type the following shown commands:

PING <ip address>
or
PING <computer name>

Okay thank you. I'll give all this a try and then check it back. On both that machines which I'm using are having Windows firewall - so I considered that this wasn't the problem for it.

Also if I’m having a hard wired connection, then the Wireless Zero Configuration and WLAN AutoConfig will not have to be enabled, correct?

Have you tried enabling the file and printer through sharing it on the XP?
