Default Difficulty in finding of Network for a Printer

I have 2 computers in my office. Both are running Windows XP home edition. They are well linked to QWest MSN isp by using a 2WIRE 2701HG-D router that is hardwired directly attached to both of them by using the Ethernet cables. The internet connections for both of them is working fine. My issue is that one computer has a printer attached to it with a USB connection and I can't access the printer from the other computer. The router is also made-up to network the two computers but I can't get the Windows networking to identify the router as a networking device, just an internet gateway.

You still might require setting up of a home network with file and printer which is distributing will enable it before it starts work.
The router will also enable you to generate a network but is not a network itself.

ETA: You'll make sure the running of the network wizard on both the computers and most essentially you MUST ensure that the workgroup name which you have choose is exactly the same on both bearing in mind it is also case sensitive.

Once you've made up with your home network if in extra to share the printer you would like to access the folders on the other PC then you would have to go to that PC and right click on the folder in question then choose "properties" and under "sharing" make the folder shared.

I have also made an attempt for setting up the network which is as explain. Then, when I go to the control panel and look for the printer which is connected to my wife's computer, if still it is not there on mine. At some point when you trying to get the network to make use of the printer, Windows asks me for a printer I.D. When I looked up the printer on my wife's control panel I receive an I. D. of "Printer2" If I try to use that name I get a message stating that I have not used an acceptable name. I don't know where else to look for the name it wants. I also looked out for a "Network Places" and found that the Ethernet connection is also working and the tests indicate both transmission and receiving over my local network.
