Default Internet functioning only on 1 computer

I am coming across a problem with a local network connecting to the internet. I’m having Comcast cable internet and also there are 2 computers which are been connected via a Linksys network hub. Both the computers are running Windows XP with service pack 3 installed in it. Moreover the computer which connects through the network, but only 1 will be able to connect at the time. I’m also able to access the files over my network from the other computers, just not the internet. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

What is providing the Comcast cable internet? If it is simply a modem and not a modem/router combination that might also explain you why only one PC is able to get on the internet at a time. You must have to have a router for attaching the numerous machines to the internet. If your are not confirm then please post a make and model of the device that is attached to the Comcast cable.

The coaxial cable which is been connected to just a modem. The modem is an RCA modem, model number DCN425. Even though, I have routed the modem to a Linksys hub (NH1005 ver. 2.1). The cable from the modem is also going into the uplink port with the port 1 going to one pc, and port 2 going to the other.

Just thinking, that the modems can only support one connection at a particular time...I also believed that I too was suffering from the same problem before I got a new router.

Yeah you will definitely require a router for supporting a multiple of computers with that setup. The cable modem which will also supply 1 public IP so that one computer is able to access the net. Untill you upgrade to a much higher priced multiple static IP business account. One month of paying for that would buy you a couple of routers.

That's correct. You just need to replace the hub with a router if you wish to share a connection with multiple computers.
