Default Uninstalled Norton and Loosed Internet Connectivity

I have recently uninstalled and then reinstalled the Norton Antivirus 2005 (disk). But now I’m not having any internet connection to my computer. I owe a cable internet with a Linksys router which was also working very fine with the other two computers in my house. The computer's operating system is also XP Media Center Version. Under the network connections it now replies that, "Local Area Connection, Network Cable Unplugged" The Ethernet connection to the router is also not unplugged. I have also tried with the system restore yesterday and it says that not anything has been altered since then. I have also uninstalled Norton Antivirus 2005 again and started making use of Norton 360 and installed the Norton 360 software in the computer. But no luck.

I've also disabled the firewalls in the computer. No luck.

I also tried reinstalling the network adaptor drivers in the computer for the application. No luck.

I assume that Norton might have altered my registry. I’m also not aware of making registry changes with out any guidance from others.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Try to download the Norton removal tool to be sure that the Norton is totally removed from your system. Norton which is having a very poor uninstalls and it often breaks with your network. If you unable to connect to the internet then run WinSockFix for repairing your network stack for smooth running.

In fact, do not make use of the WINSOCK for fixing the problem, use the accurate stack repair after removing the Norton from your system.
TCP/IP stacks repair alternative for the use with Windows XP with SP2/SP3. Start, Run, CMD for opening a command prompt in it: In the command prompt window which opens, then type the below given commands:

Reset TCP/IP stack for installation the defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries for installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine after it is done.

I just joined the forum and found that another person who was encountering with the similar problem as I did, e.g. no connectivity after a Norton uninstall. I followed the above instructions and it has also worked for me too! Prior in today my wife who had spent an hour on the phone with some of the guy in India who is working for Dell but was not having any help. Thanks again!
