Irregular problems with the file/printer sharing

I have two computers which are on the home network. Both are running Windows XP SP3 and use Norton 360 V3 as the virus/security protection. Both the machine is from the Dell with the same router. I wanted to share a few files and share the printer that is by the USB-attached to the desktop. I have also run the Network Sharing Wizard on both the machines for fixing of my problem. Windows firewall is turned off on both the machines. Sometimes, I get an error message stating that access is being denied. But trying to use the printer from the laptop sometimes it works fine but sometimes it shows an error message is been displayed indicating unable to connect. Can rebooting fix this problem.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? It is so frustrating!!!

I believe that your problem basically lies in the Norton 360. You will be required to go into the network settings and on the both machines in the Norton and then command it to the network is shared. You may also go to the Norton support site for getting better instructions for following it.

One other problem is that when I run into the Norton products is that rarely after an update that it will change the full trust setting back to shared so you may require to reset it. If the Norton product had a better firewall that didn't cause issues I would use it on all of my computers I have about 150 computers. The updated of the Antivirus/Malware is also in the hands of the best which I've to use it till date so I am willing to put up with the firewall issues on most of my computers.

Another way for solving the NETBIOS issue and can still has the Network Places browsing is to simply which creates a HOSTS file entry for each computer on the network and then allocate it to all the computers. This will determine the names locally and not the needed NETBIOS master for the browsers resolution.
