Thread: Refurbish of IP address malfunction

Hello,
I am encountering the problem for starting my computer to get connects to the internet. I had connected it before and it was working fine for a long time. Then, I plugged my friend's computer (Mac) into my modem. Then when I tried it to plug it back into my (PC), the computer was not able to connect to the internet. When I try to fix it, it says that it can't renew my IP address.

I also worked on ipconfig/release - Result: "IP Address for adapter Local Area Connection has already been released." I then tried to do the ipconfig/renew - Result: "An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection: but failed to get in touch with the DHCP server. Request has timed out."

In my Network Connection Details of the window, my IP Address is 169.254.72.74

Can someone suggest me any help with this? Thank you.

Have you unplugged the power from the modem. Some of them just need a power cycle prior to changing of any devices.
