Thread: Cat5 or cat5e cable?

I bought a new construction house and got a company to install cat5e network cables throughout the house. i went there last night to see what they did and they have grey cables and some of the writing on these cables says "c5-8 high data rate 100mhz category 5 - e194731 UL.. " i didn't write down the rest. i did a search for this but couldn't find out for sure if this is really cat5e or not. Does anyone know? Or if anyone knows how to definitely tell if a cable is either cat5 or cat5e?

I think you should write down the rest. The UL part is right where it is getting interesting. Hopefully it says something like 'UL Verified Cat5e'.
