Those who carry their notebook from home to office encountered a problem of having to utilize a dynamic IP address at home and a static at office. There is a method to have both settings in your configuration so you do not want to modify them every time you modify places.

Go to network connection properties by right clicking My Network Places and choosing Properties. Next right tick on Local Area Connection icon and choose Properties yet again. Choose Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and tick on Properties. You get a window like following.

Click on the Alternate Configuration tab. If you do not contain Obtain an IP address automatically elected you won’t get this tab

Static IP information should be entered in boxes and click OK.

One side result of using this kind of configuration is that it will take much time to fully load Windows as it will first look for an IP address from a DHCP server earlier than using other configuration.
